The village relates to modern America because it has its own set of laws that the older people govern.

Mechanisms of social control that they use in the village is fear.
The fear keeps them from going outside the boundaries and keeps them from going completely free to do whatever they want.

Things the village folk considedered deviant were going out of the boudaries, killing and appreciating the color red.

The authorities ahieved obedience from their people by getting people in monster costumes to scare the villagers.

The villagers conformed because they had a simple life and if they showed any interest of not doing what was expected, then the "monsters" would view them as a threat and come to get them.

The village relates to modern day America because there are many aspects of our life that we hide even if it is for the better, and most of the time the elders know what is best for us.

The fact that there are a select few who rule over the rest and the fact that they make the rules that we abide are very similar to our life.

Killing and going into the woods were considered deviant activities, speaking of those of which they did not speak of was also a sign of deviancy and the entire aspect of the people being kept in this society was very deviant in its own way.

The created a false or farse as the movie stated idea that the creatures were dangerous and and the color red was also dangerous.

The conformed because everyone was scared of what might happen to them, they also knew that it was dangerous to challenge the woods. The life they lived was simple and complete therefore wy try to explore any further, it reminds me of the amish way of living however this is clearly much more extreme.

The village relates to modern America in a couple of ways. Both the village and modern America have rules that must be followed, to keep the society in order. The other way that the village relates to modern America, is because in the village there was a group of elders that ran the society and made all the decisions, and in American society in some households, the elders of the house, whether it be parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles, the elders run the household. Also on a greater scale there is a group of "elders" that makes it so that the president does not have too much power. Those "elders" are, the house of representatives and the senate. For the president to do anything, his idea has to be approved by the legislative branch. Also, the judicial branch act as elders too, making sure all things done, follow the constitution. The elders in the village community decide all of the things that happen in the community, they have total control and dictate what people do.

The mechanism that would be considered social control is that there are rules, that is because it directly relates to our society. In the village, the rules were made for the people to be safe; and in our society the rules have the same purpose. The rules in American society were designed to protect the people too. For example, the speed limit is to make sure people drive at reasonable speeds, which keeps all people safe.

In the village going into the woods was considered to be deviant behavior, that is because it was going against the norms of society.

The authorities got the people in the village to be obedient by instilling fear into them. Without the fear, there would be no control of the people, and people would leave the village.

The reason why the people in the village conformed, is because of fear of the outside world. Also, the people in the village have not learned of the outside world; therefore, it is hard for them to know anything else when they were not exposed to anything else.

The village relates to modern America because both societies set rules or laws for the people to live by. Our consequences may differ from theirs because when Noah was found guilty for murder they locked him up within a room and in our society, people who kill would get sent straight to prison and may get the death penalty. Another way that modern America and the village relates is in the way we try to protect ones innocence. In the village they have boundaries that cannot be passed where as in America, we protect our young by making sure they are safe in the house, school or where ever they may go. Some even try to protect them from the negative influences that the media may give them. In the village there are no televisions or anything like that which may have an influence on their behavior.

In order to keep social control, the people, or the "elders" had others of their own watching over the people to make sure that they would not go outside of the boundaries. When they felt that th society was getting out of control they would try to scare the people so that they would believe that they need to follow the rules in order to be safe and happy.

People in the village considered doing something without parental permission was deviant. Of course killing was deviant, but most importantly, leaving and going into the woods was most deviant. By them going into the woods the people would learn that there is more outside around than just their little town.

For the authorities to achieve obedience they had a few people run around the village and scare the people. In modern America, there are police who are known as the authority to make sure that society is in order. As a result of this the village people had no choice but to conform with their peers because they were too afraid of going against the society by themselves especially when there were some unknown monster running around the town. This was the best way to make sure that everyone will stay in line and obey the rules given to them.

The Village shows a society where they try to fight against any acts of deviant behavoir. Behavoir that modern day Americans would see has deviant behavoir. The elders of the village mimic our American government. They establish laws and rules that the rest of the soceity must follow, or there will be consequences. This is much like our American society. Disobeying the rules of the Village is considered deviant, also any harm done to another member of the village is seen as deviant. The elders were able to control the rest of the society by giving them fear of something that is confusing and unknown, "Those they do not speak of".

The Village

The village relates to modern America because there are the things that scare them and there is violence and the people that control them. The social control in the village is fear because of those they do not speak of live in the forest so people don’t leave the village. Like in our society the social control of the government. In the village one of the deviant activities is having the color red around, it is not a good color to them. The elders achieved obedience because they scared the people of the town with the creature that they made up.

The village relate to modern America because the people kind of fear going outside of their comfort zone. People in the village never leave because they don’t want to see anything different. The social control that keeps the village together is the fear of the woods. The people fear that if they leave they will never come back because they will hurt by something in the woods. People in our society have this same fear that keeps them in their comfort zone. The action that is deviant is a person going into the woods is deviant. This is deviant because people aren’t allowed in the woods. The authorities keep this obedience by wearing costumes that look like monsters to scare people back into the village.

They have a set of people that govern the rest of the society in which they set rules they are obedient to; this makes them similar to our society.

The fact that they have rules they are in place to keep the society safe relates to mechanism of social control in our society. They have rules in the village to keep people safe, for example not leaving because you could be killed. In our society we have rules like fighting, it is dangerous for people to fight because it could bring harm to the individuals involved.

The elders of the village considered killing a large form of devience in the community. They also considered appreciating the color red and leaving the boundries. Anything going against the norms in the village is consider devience.

By installing fear within the society of the village it kept and acheived obedience from the villagers. For example they installed fear from leaving the boundries by saying you would be killed in the forest.

The villagers conformed with their peers in the village because of the success of installing fear in the society. They were scared of the outside world and all the dangers that lerked.
