Chapter 3: Socialization

In the process of socialization, what is more important: nature or nurture?

Use examples from videos, readings, texts, your own research to make your case. You should have at least three entries. One where you state your case and two others where you respond to other students.

I think nurture is more important because its not always relevant where or how your born if your raised to believe certain things. Like today with the Indians. It didn't really matter after a while that they lived in the US first because they were taught differently and to believe that they were the bad ones and the Americans were right.

I believe that nurture is the most important because nature is the outside environments that bring influence towards you. Nurture is something thats stronger and something that is given differently to everyone. Every child is raised differently with their sets of mannerisms, morals, norms, and beliefs. Without nurture, we cannot function in the world like Genie, who was locked away for her childhood. We cannot grow to adapt to our "nature;" our human society.

I think that nurture is more important because you can be raised in a bad society and still become successful based on your values or morals. For example, growing up poor but making yourself better through education. Then getting a better job and pulling yourself and your family out of poverty. Another example would be the girl Genie living isolated but still having the ability to be nurtured and having the ability to learn.

To James I believe to an extent that everyone is raised with the same morals thats why we all think there is a difference between right and wrong. We all thinking killing people is morally wrong. While society views things that are morally right as going to school, getting a job, helping the community and etc.

To Dyllan, I think that it does matter how your were born and what your raised to believe because how we were raised effects how we behave and how we treat others in society. For example, someone who lost a family member violently will view violence differently than someone who never lost someone violently.

I believe that Nuture is more important than nature. The reason for this is because how the enviroment around you helps you to understand how you are suppose to act around people. Another reason why i believe in Nurture more is because we as people learn from our experiences. without those we wouldnt be shapped as the people we are today

I think nurture is more important. Just about any child of any nature can be brought up against it, or better for it, depending how they are raised. A child with a "negative" nature, can be raised good, depending on how they are nurtured. The same can be said of a good child, who is nurtured, (or lack of it). Sometimes, the nature of the person is dominant, and takes over. But I believe that nurture is the most important factor in a person's personality.

I believe that nurture is more important because a child adapts to how they are raised. the example of the identical twins is good example because if you take one twin and raise them in a different environment than the other twin, the two will develop into two different people with two different personalties. but if they are raised in similar scenarios, they develop the same type of reaction.

In socialization nurture is more important as opposed to nature because nature can take care of itself and happens on its own. Nurture on the other hand comes from others around you and boost a child's chances at being more equip for the real world.

I think that nurture is the most important thing that comes with child development. nature isnt becuase thats just whats around them and you have to nurture them before they can even go into the outside world. The way you teach and nurture your child will shape how they become and act in the outside world and how they are going to be in the future. Nature comes after nurture.

Nurture is way more influential than nature because of the bigger effect that it will have on the childs life. it really doesnt matter where you grow up , you can live in one of the " hoodest " places but if you were raised in a certain way then that can override the bad places . you may pick up some of the habits but it really doesnt shape who you are as a person.

i think nurture is the mosyt important because is apart of the nature of humans. First of al we use too teach our culture ethics and values.Nuture will not change our nature. But i think that without presence of nature itself theres nothing worth for nuturing for. Also i think nurture is important because every child have similar ideas and their own beliefs. I think nurture is more important because it matters how your raised and not where you was raised. The way your raised show what type of person you will become in the future. For example, the leopard boy was raced by leopards so he started to act like one. Nature does matter sometimes because your environment makes you as a person to, but nurture is more important.

I agree with jaquan because if you look at Oprah and how hard her life was growing up. It does not compaare to how she lives now. Left the past behind and is one of the riches people in the world. Buying cars and schools for people

I think nurture is most important because you look at that video of the girl being locked in her room and not knowing how to speak or anything at an old age. Being nurtured helps you learn manners and the lessons of life.

I agree with Chamyra's post because if you've been nurtured the right way then bad places that you're around won't really influence how you act.

Nurture is more important than nature because as your being nurtured your learning the basics of life like those Indian people in that video we watched in class and basically lived off the basic of life.

and i did the post before this one

Nurture is more important because as James said, "Nurture is something thats stronger and something that is given differently to everyone." All children arent influenced by the environment the same way. Morals and personal beliefs are influenced by nurture.

in the process of socialization nurture is more important than nature. all a child needs is nurture to get the understanding of a "basic world". in the video Jenny she did not have nurture. her nature was to be silent and isolated.

Although nurture is more important than nature i do think that nature plays an important role in a development of a child. The example of the identical twins is good example of nature being important because if you take one twin and put them in a different environment than the other twin, the two will develop into two different people with two different personalties and differant way of how to deal with things.

Response to Dyllan said...

i partlly disagree with your answer. i do think that it matters where you are born. if you are the child of the person that created Ford then you will most likely exspect everything handded to you and not have to work for anything because you already have money but if you are brought up into a single parent house with low income, i feel as if that child would have more appresiation than the other child

Response to James said...

i Agree with you when you say "Every child is raised differently with their sets of mannerisms, morals, norms, and beliefs. Without nurture, we cannot function in the world like Genie". if you have nurture from your parent or who ever takes care of you i think that you will be alright in the world as far as understanding basic things goes

Here's a question for everyone... if there is no nurture given to a child what will happen to him/her? how will he react to nature? Will he/she be able to be nurtured again or will he/she be lost for good?

Da-Von C. said...

I personally believe the nurture plays the biggest role in a childs upbringing. is ay this due to the fact that a person will adapt to whetever situation that they are born into. For instance the girl learned her own norms because she had no one to teach her; if she was brought up around other humans she obviously would do normal things such as small things like use a spoon or even know how to speak. Nurture is most importanat in society with out it people would obviously be all crazy and what not.

Da-Von C. said...

I believe Velerie is correct her points and information is deffinatly what i was going for in my own post. Nurture is what sets people apart making them different but also on the same page as far as society goes.

Da-Von C. said...

Chamyra also has a great answer her points are very clear and also i agree with them. Before your child is able to eperience and you let them experience society you have to nurture them with the right qualities and character to make it.

i think that nature is the most important because nature is all around us.every child is raised differently and if raised by nature the outcome will be different.
