Does social class matter?

Use examples from videos, readings, texts, your own research to make your case. You should have at least three entries. One where you state your case and two others where you respond to other students.

Social class matter.(school). The more money that you or your family has the better chance you have to get a better education at a better school. Im sure people that klive in beverly hills have a better education than those that live in the chicago preojectss. Its just common sense., there are even people who dont even have to go to school they are so rich, all they have to do is take over the family business

Social class matters at people rights...everyone knows racism still excist and there are dominat races for each social class. Whites are usually higher than blacks asian or hispanics. the social class is the main reason for this......effect in society

I agree, I think social class does matter because it defines who you are among your peers. Rash judgements are made about people whether they know it or not and sadly, most judgements are made based upon ones social class and where they stand financially, religiously etc.

Of course social class matter because everything is based on money. If you go to the hospital the first thing they do is ask for your insurance and its not fair to the people that need the help that doesn't have insurance. Thats how today's society is though, everything is based on your rank in society. If you have money then you will be able to receive a better education.

I think social class matter becauseis overrated. Social class can be destructive and influences groups to put labels on each other. I also think that the more wealth one has the more opportunities one has at their disposal. However, everybody has the opportunity to be wealthy and yto achieve anything they want if they use the great power.I truly believe that we make our own choices that will determine our own opportunities which in reality will effect our own lifestyle and some in society must label others to make some feel superior to me that how life has been but maybe we need to change stereotyping. I wish people could just see another human for what they stand for not the material things.

Social class has everything to do with a persons opportunity in the real word. I think that a rich persons lifestyle woudlnt be the same as the poor person. For example a poor person might need clothing he/she might end up going to the salvation army. If a rich person needed clothes they would go to either the mall to get their stuff. I think that a rich person has a lot more choices of food thana poor person. Social class basically refers to wealth. The more money$ a person has access, the more opportunity they have for higher education. The higher their education the better career will be. The better the career the more $$ you will have

Social class does matter in almost every type of social situation (jobs, school, church etc.) The reason being is because to an extent they can determine what you are allowed to do and not to do. For example, if you are a principle at a school you are allowed to do many more things as opposed to if you were a normal teacher.

I agree, everything really is about money. If you don't have money in this society it's a sad reality, but you're looked at as less of a person. Money is a factor that plays a huge part in determining your social class, for example: If you come from a family of wealthy parents then it is most likely that this wealth will be passed on to you, but if you're from a poor family you will most likely inherit that poor lifestyle.

I agree with Fontaine 100% .

Social class does matter because it keeps our society functioning the way we are now. Due to income people have certain jobs and roles in society based on what they have achieved and what they have done. People get certain respect due to what they have done in society and sometimes even what type of jobs they do. So social class matters a lot in society.

I agree with Dyllan when he says that social class matters especially when it comes to school and getting an education. The more money you have the more you can change your lifestyle of living to support your family and continue keeping your family in a certain social class. When your family stays in a certain social class it matters when it comes to economics and occupation in the future.

In the life of an individual, Social class is important. Rising through the ranks in an occupation for example will benefit greatly to one's self:
Higher Salary
Bigger opportunities
Greater connections to other people
Higher Prestige and responsibilities
and a greater sense of respect from other people.

Social class matters whatever no one says . without money nowadays you really will not be able to survive in the real world. the more money you have the better chance of you surviving in this world. and the more money your family has the more of a chance you may have an easier life to live since your family is already financially fit.

I agree with Jaquan as well because society runs on money if you don't have money you become limited to things in your community. For example, when we watched 30 days and they were living on a minimum income and the debts they received were so much more than they could pay off. Therefore, limiting them to health care, and pleasures in society. Social class does matter because that is how we define where we are in society and what groups we belong to.

Like Jaquan said, its sad but the amount of money one has does determine that opportunities they will be given. Take college for example, workin - class people put themselves into a lifetime of debt in order to achieve a degree that will ultimately change their social class. Which goes back to the idea of social mobility.

Sadly, social class is also a catalyst to social discrimination because when some one is higher in social class than another, they feel as if they're better then them, and shun them. Poor people are not respected that much and are pitied by the middle and upper class people. Not everyone gets the same opportunities and gets to climb the same ladder and some people don't have the ability to climb at all. Those people are lost in forgotten in society

Yes, social class matters because people and employers look for education and background to find good employees that will not cause harm or hazard to companies and work places. I agree with Dylan's response, in order to get a good education, a financially stable starting block is necessary. Money is the root of almost anything and everything. Money is needed for survival and benefiting society.

James said...

As everyone has been stating, the problem and our solution is money. Money is what justifies whether we progress or be pushed back in the walk of the social classes. Without money, you will not be treated at hospitals, fed at restaurants, shown respect in certain places, and you'll be a pariah to society. If the upper class and middle class showed attention to the low class, things would be better for them. Sadly, barely any of those people have that mentality or follow through with what they say. If money wasn't the reason why we either lived or died, things would differ greatly

Social Class still matters. Everyone knows to "not judge a book by its cover", but most people view others based on their so-said class. Everyone think that the Feudal Age is over, but in fact, it is still alive, albeit in a different form. The USA is an Open society, as opposed to the feudal one, and while the "nobles" have been replaced with the rich, and the serfs with the poor, and the average, stays the same. There is still a social heirarchy, most people just refuse to accept it. You can move up, but its is difficult, but still possible.

Social class determines how much money your family has. The higher you are in social class the easier life is. The more money you can spend on things like education and happiness. The better education a person has, the more money they will make. Overall an easier life because, they wont have to prioritize and focus their money on one thing and neglect another.

xianni said...

yea. i think that social class matter. the reason for unfortunately is to put people in their place. the more money you have the better you live the more important you are. when you are poor its the opposite.
when it comes down to an education you have the longer you are in school the higher you get the more you know means that most likely you will be able to get a good position in the work place.

i agree with James...

I think that social class matters a lot. The level of the social class is dependent on usually inherited wealth or family heritage. People who are in lower social classes won't be involved in certain clubs that the high class are in because they don't have money or power like them

Brandon L. said...

I agree with Xianni because social classes matter when you're in school too. Kids who don't do well in school won't have all the same opportunities that the kids with good grades have. School is probably the main way people can increase their level on the social class.

Brandon L. said...

I sort of agree with Jaquan. Most social classes are based on the money you make but if you work hard in school then money doesn't really matter towards bettering your education. The only time money really matters towards education is around college time but if you get scholarships then it shouldn't really be a problem.

Danielle said...

i agree with jaquan that Social class does matter due to money. if you really think about it money is a very big deal in the world today. i disagree with dyllan due to the fact that not everyone has a family business to take over and sufferes without a high school education.

social class does indeed a hell of a lot more than most people realize it. social class is EVERYTHING. It makes who YOU are in life. It also determines who you hang out with, go to school with, the type of health condition you are in, the type of environment you grow up in, overall everything about you. Sure, you may argue that social class doesn't matter but those who argue against it are very weak-minded not seeing the big picture that with no money or assistance somewhere it's very hard to find power or make your voice heard. social class is EVERYTHING in life.
