Who has power in American government?

Do you agree with C. Wright Mills that there is a "power elite" that is in charge in America? Explain using evidence from the data packet, the videos, and class charts.

Make at least three comments. First, your original thought. Then respond to two other student comments.

I do not agree with C.Wright Mills that there is a power elite that is in charge of America. Based on our models that we did today in class they show that power is spread out but within certain individuals and that income and political preference matters when it comes to spreading power within America.

I agree with Domhoff's model more that the corporate community and leaders have the most power, looking at figure three in our packets today with heavy hitter almost over 89% of the companies spent company money into donating money to the democratic America giving them the ability to to have one of the largest powers in the United States.

I think that the United States has power in the American government because the alot of people have their power through representatives but i dont think no one holds more power than the constitution. The reason i say this is because some governments are notorous for poor human rights. Also for example we had fought againts similar government abuses of power restriction.

I think that the structure of the power elite model by C.Wright Mills shows some of the main people who do control power but does not accurately portray just how much power they have in society. I think that the circle model and the triangle model need to be combined because factors from both models show who controls power in America but with each model it is not accurately showed who controls how much of the power.

Power is mainly in the Wealthy Elite's hands, but there are still strong bases of power in more "people" oriented towns, cities and states. The power should belong to the people, but it mainly seems that a select few people have influence in politics. The majority needs the power again to prevent political corruption.

I agree with Ian that our society makes us believe that power belongs to the people but in all actuality it is portrayed through the donations chart that democratics have the most power and caucasions have about 143 thousand dollars of money going into the government.

I agree with C.Wright Mills model because i think the model corporates the community and leaders to have more power. Also because it focuses on three areas that includes the highest polical leaders including the president and the major corporate owners and directors and the high ranking millitary officers. This position gives holders more authority over governmental, financial, education and social.

I agree that there is a power elite in the United States. If you look at the charts Cotto gave us earlier it shows which corporations support which political parties. Even though the democrats got more backing than the republicans, it was from unions that don't have much power in America. Therefore the top 1% that control the wealth are the ones that are the power supreme.

THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE MOST POWER IN AMERICA ARE THE RICH PEOPLE WHO OWN THE COMPANIES BECAUSE THEY CONTROL WHAT MONEY GOES WHERE

i agree with Valerie because they do have the most power and but we never really see it. They talk about but never want to show exactly what they have. I also do not agree with C.Wright Mills because the elite power is all around the United States including the wealth and income of others.

There are power elite systems in the United States its just that the main people that have it is the rich white people that can actually afford them. In one of the graphs me and Kristina looked at it was sorted out by race, and it showed that blacks and Latinos were the lowest because they couldnt afford it based on their income and savings.

I agree with Dyllan because the more money you have the more power you have. The poster that me danielle and brandon made showed that AT&T was one of the companies with the highest power.

I also agree with chamyra about the charts saying that the latino's and blacks were the lowest race with the least amount of income. Not all black people are struggling with money but according to the charts thats how it is. The whites are the ones with the better rankings over any other race. Today society money rules everything.

i agree with Valerie, the structure of the power elite model by C.Wright Mills shows some of the main people who do control power but does not accurately show were in direct the power comes from

i somewhat agree with Miguel people do show there power by geting roles as representatives but some dont use it for good.power should never just be gaven to one person, thats when things become unsafe.
